Keep your eyes on your own paper.

Your friends are secretly judging you. It's a little ugly but it's true.

They're also judging themselves and everything everyone else does all the time. It's called being human. Often, people who have never gotten botox, think botox is “vain.” People who have worked for years on their health and physique often think weight loss meds are “cheating.”

But when you ask them why they think that, they can’t really explain it. The belief is like an earworm that just got in there and put down roots without any explanation. Why is getting botox vain, but hair dye is ok? Why are weight loss meds cheating, but having athletic genetics isn’t?

Here's my response to anyone who’s feeling judgy about what others are doing: keep your eyes on your own paper. Everyone's genetics respond to the world around them in different ways. Those of us who grew up in the 80’s and 90’s experienced a season of very high sugar content foods with very few limitations on consumption. Some of us made it out without health consequences, but others didn't. Everyone's life experiences have created a snowball effect leading them to the person they are in the situation they're in today.

If someone could use a little help being healthier with weight loss meds, it doesn't make your fitness journey any less powerful. If they could use some help feeling more confident with a little botox, it doesn't make your wrinkles any more problematic. Let's give heaps of grace, to one another and to ourselves. Because the other thing I hear all the time is…

"I'd love to, but I shouldn't." That’s that earworm going to town on your shame. Why not? Why shouldn't you feel better, be healthier, get some help? If it's reasonable for you financially and safe, why wouldn't you try it? You're not marrying it. It could change your life.

I've seen so many women go from a little botox, to going to the gym regularly, eating better, and getting a promotion at work. It’s not the botox that changed their life, it’s the feeling a little better, a little more confident, that led to the next right move.

It's just a new snowball.

What would you try if you stopped asking permission from a rule you never agreed to?
